Instant Sunshine are a sparkling comedy quartet who have been entertaining audiences for 50 years with their witty anecdotal songs affectionately mocking the British way of life.

As many of you will know, their story began at the St Thomas’ New Year’s Eve Ball on 31 December 1996 when the cabaret (Micky & Griff) that had been booked pulled out at the last minute due to illness and a replacement band had to be found. Someone suggested that three medical students, David Barlow, Alan Maryon-Davis and Peter Christie should knock something up to keep the revellers happy, so they got together and performed their first gig, to rousing applause from the audience.

Over the last fifty years Instant Sunshine have been regular favourites at the Edinburgh Fringe, and have performed across the globe – from New York to New Zealand and from Hong Kong to the North Peckham Civic Centre.  For many years they were the resident musical interlude on Radio 4’s ‘Stop the Week’ and, as well as writing and performing a number of now-familiar signature tunes for radio and television, they have recorded dozens of their delightful songs on vinyl, cassette and CD. On 17 February 2017 they will perform their fiftieth anniversary concert at The Cadogan Hall in Chelsea.
