GKT Alumni

GKT Alumni

The Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ (GKT) Alumni group is a network open to all graduates of GKT.

All graduates of King's College London’s GKT School of Medical Education are invited to join us. This includes those who graduated from the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals, before they merged with King’s.

Our aims are to enable and develop relationships within our alumni community, the wider King’s alumni community and the medical school. We hope to provide opportunities for professional development and invite you to join us for both social and educational events.

What’s been happening in GKT?

After 15 years as Director of Clinical Studies at the University of Oxford, Guy’s alumnus Dr Tim Lancaster (Guy’s, Medicine, 1983) returned to GKT as Dean. He brings with him a great passion for medical education, and we wish him the very best of luck.

Guy’s campus continues to develop, with the transformation of Boland House into the Science Gallery London, and the KCLSU student union’s second year in the renovated West Wing building. Guy's Bar lives on and is open for alumni and friends to visit. Find out more here.

And 2018 will see our first cohort of final years graduate under the pilot of Stage 3 (years 4 and 5) of the new 2020 Curriculum.

Volunteer as an examiner

We are looking for volunteers to examine in our mock OSCE (practical exam) for the third years.

The MSA FYC is running a mock OSCE for 3rd years on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th June at the WEC, Denmark Hill. Lunch and refreshments will be provided and all volunteers will receive a certificate for their portfolios. If you're interested in volunteering, sign up here

Final year peer-assisted learning

We are developing a peer-assisted learning scheme between final year medical students and GKT graduates. This improves the confidence of new foundation doctors, while giving current junior doctors a chance to share and reinforce their knowledge and development.

The plan is for this to take place in the new ‘Transition to Foundation’ placement in the spring/summer term, when final year students have got their results and prospective deaneries. This will be open to all alumni that are interested (both in London and across the country), so please get in touch if it sounds like something you would like to be involved in.

Caring for refugees

Kitrinos Healthcare are a team providing medical services to over 60,000 refugees in camps in Greece. They are currently short of prescribing doctors and nurses and are reaching out for help. Accommodation can be provided.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please contact Stephanie and Siyana at volunteer@kitrinoshealthcare.com or on their website.
