The annual reunion lunch for Guy’s medical alumni was held this year on Wednesday 8 October 2014, hosting 78 alumni in celebration and memory of eminent GP, John Fry (1922-1994). This annual event was made all the more special as alumni were joined by Professor Ed Byrne (the new President and Principal of King’s College London) Dr Michael O’Brien (our fantastic guest speaker) and Mrs Trudy Amiel-Fry, who is John Fry’s widow.

The reunion began in the Revelstoke Room at Henriette Raphael House; refreshments were served and stories were shared, as old friends reminisced over their time at Guy’s. The cheery atmosphere continued through to the Henriette Raphael Suite for a three-course lunch. Before the lunch was served, Dr Tina Challacombe, Chairman of the John Fry at Guy’s Alumni Group, warmly welcomed all guests and introduced Professor Ed Byrne, who gave a thought-provoking speech about his own connections with John Fry. This was then followed by a heartfelt ‘thank you’ from scholar Ola Olabintan, who received one of this year’s  John Fry at Guy’s scholarships which helps towards his final year in medical practice.

The lunch continued with much enjoyment, concluding with dessert and a fantastic talk on ‘Great Guy’s Men and Women of the last 50 years’ by Dr Michael O’Brien, Medicine, 1962. Michael took us on an entertaining and insightful journey through the ages, remembering old friends and familiar faces, in celebration of Guy’s rich history. The audio of his speech and the whole day is available online along with photos from the event.

The reunion lunch was followed by a visit to the fascinating Gordon Museum, refreshments and a talk by curator Bill Edwards. A great time was had by all - we are looking forward to next year already!

Next year’s lunch is on Wednesday 14 October 2015. Please check back at a later date on our Events page for further details and how to book.
