King’s hosts largest ever Times Higher Education World Academic Summit

World Academic Summit

King’s recently showcased its position as a leader in the Higher Education field by playing host to the recent Times Higher Education World Academic Summit – the first time it has been hosted in Europe.

An unprecedented 500 delegates from 50 countries around the world were welcomed to King’s for the summit. Delegates included Vice-Chancellors, Presidents and Principals, Nobel Laureates and Deans from institutions around the globe – from the USA to Singapore.

The summit centred on the theme of collaboration. Major topics of discussion included the power of global partnerships, diversity in Higher Education and how universities create impact in their local communities. King’s new strategy includes significant ambition on these themes, including the creation an International School for Government to help address global problems and a goal for King’s to become the most accessible UK Russell Group university.

The summit was opened by The President & Principal, Professor Edward Byrne AC, who said:

‘This summit exemplifies the heart of our new strategic vision; serving the needs and aspirations of society by partnering up with a network of global leaders.

‘King’s is committed to tackling the major issues of our time. Through partnerships such as the PLuS Alliance, and with the Francis Crick Institute, we are bringing together some of the greatest minds across the world. These shared challenges will be most effectively addressed through coalition and collaboration.’

King’s was represented in an array of panel discussions and presentations by senior academics at King’s including Professor Evelyn Welch FKC, Provost & Senior Vice-President (Arts & Sciences) and Professor ‘Funmi Olonisakin, Vice-President & Vice-Principal (International).
