King's Nursing ranked #3 in the world

King's Nursing students

For King’s alumni, the list of reasons to be proud of their alma mater grew even longer in April 2017, as the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery was recognised as the best in the UK for Nursing Education for the second year running.

The Faculty placed third in the global ranking of universities compiled by analysts from QS, gaining three places from 2016, and remained the best ranked university in the UK for Nursing.

“Our staff and students can be proud of this mark of recognition”

King’s was only beaten to the podium by two American institutions, the University of Pennsylvania and Johns Hopkins University.

When interviewed, Professor Ian Norman, the Executive Dean of the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery said he was ‘delighted’ that King’s contribution to ‘education, research and service has been recognised by QS as the top faculty in the UK for nursing for the second consecutive year’, and is now ‘among the top three faculties in the world.’

He added: ‘The work we do helps strengthen the nursing and midwifery professions and improve their cumulative impact on healthcare globally.’

Echoing the thoughts of the entire King’s community, Professor Norman emphasised that staff and students of the Faculty ‘can be proud of this mark of recognition, since this success is down to the collective efforts of our whole community.’

The Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing & Midwifery is the direct descendant of the Nightingale Training School established at St Thomas’ Hospital in 1860; the world’s first school of nursing.

The Faculty develops the leading nurses and midwives of tomorrow – practitioners, partners, and leaders in their fields and is home to 200 staff and nearly 3,000 students, spread across four departments: Child & Family Health; Midwifery; Adult Nursing; and Mental Health Nursing. The faculty is noted for its strong postgraduate research programme, with activities that meet the needs of a wide range of healthcare professionals seeking continuing professional development.
